The NEXT STEP CONFERENCE 2007
SPORT - EMPOWERING TOMORROW'S LEADERS TODAY

The Next Step 2007 Conference was held from 19-22 September 2007 in Windhoek, Namibia and brought together a wide range of leading partners from the international sport and development community. Over 350 delegates worldwide attended the conference which focused on sport’s contribution to the building of a peaceful and better world by empowering young sports leaders to champion the Olympic values of friendship and fair play and become the leaders of tomorrow.

The conference was organised by UK Sport in partnership with the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) Zone VI and the Namibian government. The Rt Hon Nahas Angula, Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia, officially opened the conference before addresses from the Hon John Mutorwa, Chairman of the SCSA Zone VI Council of Ministers and Minister for Sport, Namibia and the Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, UK Minister for the Olympics, at the Opening Ceremony.

Iconic athletes Dame Kelly Holmes, Frank Fredericks and Edwin Moses all spoke on social development and inspiration through sport in front of an audience which included Ministers and senior government officials, leading figures from international organisations, International Federations, National Sports Councils, National Governing Bodies, NGOs, Charities, the corporate sector and the media, and young sports leaders from across the world.

Next Step 2007 Conference Report published

The Next Step 2007 conference organisers have published the official conference report. The report gives details on each of the panel sessions, the outcomes from the conference and lists some of the commitments to action made by delegates at the end of the conference. It also gives detailed reports and photos from the conference media and youth programmes.
